About Sonic Junkie Records
Sonic Junkie Recording Studio is operated by members of Dispatch Collective, a Brooklyn-based arts collective co-founded in 2021 by Vano Chikhladze, also known as experimental music producer Sonic Junkie.
In March 2022, Dispatch Collective threw its first event and donated all profits to aiding Ukraine. In August 2022, Dispatch Collective designed and built a stage for Fractal Fest, a grassroots music festival in upstate New York showcasing experimental electronic music and arts. In addition to the stage, co-founder Sonic Junkie designed an EEG headset linked to controlling music output and a lighting system, which he invited visitors to try before using in his live set. In fall 2023, Dispatch Collective threw its second event, entitled Biomech, which featured experimental performance art and music. All profits from the event were donated to organizations fighting toxic waste.
Then, in December 2023, tragedy struck Dispatch Collective and the global music community when Vano passed unexpectedly in his home. Sonic Junkie Recording Studio was launched only a few months later as an initiative to honor Vano’s legacy. Equipment in the Sonic Junkie Recording Studio, which includes a customized DJ-table and over 12 synthesizers, is donated from Vano’s home studio where he recorded music and operated a popular Youtube channel of live sets and tutorials under the name Sonic Junkie.
Vano believed strongly in building community, having the freedom to experiment, and using the arts as a tool for transformation on a local and global level. We carry his legacy through Sonic Junkie Recording Studio.
Sonic Junkie Recording Studio’s core mission is to facilitate a studio space and community for forward-thinking experimental art to flourish. Sonic Junkie Recording Studio is an affordable studio space in Brooklyn where musicians are invited to use our equipment to create, learn, and collaborate. All equipment has been donated from the home studio of Sonic Junkie, an experimental producer and visionary who left us too soon in 2023. Through monthly interviews, biweekly podcasts, tutorials, and small live events, we cultivate a community where creatives can share ideas, meet fellow artists, and experience the arts in a meaningful way.
- To support a diverse range of musicians and artists by providing affordable studio facilities and resources
